The difference in a post, a blog, a comment, a blogger and a commenter
Just go ahead and forward this to anyone that is old/cranky, I’m sure it will help. As a writer online, you run into this problem all the time. People just don’t get the difference in any of this, so here goes.
A post — A post is a story online. It can be on a blog, on a website, on tumblr, on anything.
A blog — A blog is a website, not a singular story. You cannot say, “What did you just blog,” because that makes no sense. You can ask, “What did you just post,” because the different stories are all posts. Asking “Could you blog ____ ” is as amateur as a golf enthusiast asking what someone “shot” on a certain hole. It isn’t what you shot, it’s what you “made” or “scored.”
A comment — This is not something the author produced! If a comment bothers you, it isn’t because the author thought it up and posted it under his story. That would make zero sense. A comment is something a third party posted that nobody knows. If they hate Barack Obama, that doesn’t mean the writer does.
A blogger — He/she is the person that wrote the post. Normally, it says “By: (blogger)”. They are the person to yell at if you want to comment.
A commenter — Again, not the author. A commenter is a person that reads a post and adds his own two cents at the bottom. This person in no way is getting paid by the website or even has a real name online. He is like someone that screams at a rally.
